What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors treat many common musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain, headache, whiplash injuries, sprains/strains, work and sports injuries and arthritis. For many conditions, such as low back pain, chiropractic care is frequently the primary method of treatment. Chiropractic care may also be used to prevent future injury and enhance the general well-being of the patient.
What is a spinal adjustment?
An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement applied by the hand to a joint of the body. Spinal adjustment releases adhesions/scar tissue, relaxes musculature and restores normal joint movement. When an adjustment is performed, a pressure difference is created within the synovial joint and this often creates an audible sound.
Will I need x-rays?
Most patients do not require x-rays before receiving treatment. In some cases spinal imaging may be required to assist with accurate diagnosis or rule out serious underlying conditions. If x-rays are required, your chiropractor can order these for you.
Is chiropractic
care safe?
Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies. Yet, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse side effects. Most patients experience immediate relief following an adjustment, however, some may experience temporary pain and stiffness. Such adverse effects are typically minor, short-lived and are addressed with appropriate home-care advice.
How long will
I need care?
The length of treatment will vary among individuals based on age, different conditions, and general healing ability. The primary goal of treatment is to alleviate pain and enhance function. The long term goal involves educating patients about proper rehabilitation and discharging in a timely manner so that patients can maintain their results independently at home. Many of our patients freely choose to continue with regular, supportive care to enhance their overall spinal function and prevent future occurrences of acute injury.
Is chiropractic care covered by OHIP?
Chiropractic care is not covered by OHIP, however most extended health insurance plans do cover a portion of chiropractic services.
